VisionPOS

Computer Vision Assisted dispense data collection device

Card Image

It is challenging to collect dispensing data (medicine name, lot/batch#, expiry date, or patient vitals) at the last-mile service delivery points (SDP), mainly in Asia and Africa. Computer vision-based applications can be used in last-mile dispensing points to collect better dispensing data without any manual data entry requirements. The app will assist in improving patient service quality with minimum effort and investment.

Use Case 1 – health facility general dispensary

  • Patient hands over the prescription to the dispenser
  • Dispenser collects the medicines from shelf
  • Dispenser places the medicines on visionPOS tray
  • visionPOS identifies medicines and records the data
  • Dispense medicines to the patient
  • Data uploads periodically to server

Use Case 2 – ART/TB dispensary

  • Scan the Patient Card
  • Collect the medicines from shelf
  • Scan the DataMatrix barcode of medicine bottle
  • visionPOS decodes barcodes and records the data
  • Dispense medicines to the patient
  • Data uploads periodically to server

Use Case 3 – EPI vaccination center

  • Scan the Patient Card
  • Scan the DataMatrix barcode of vaccine package/vial
  • Scan the VVM image of the vial
  • Administer the vaccine to the patient
  • visionPOS decodes barcodes and records the data
  • Data uploads periodically to server

OUTCOMES

Efficiency

Save time & resources for stock management & patient services

Service Indicators

Analyze patient services, peak time in a day/week & drugs on-demand

Proof of Service

Services archived in server – drugs dispensed, DataMatrix, patient card, vial VVM

Fake Identification

Same lot/batch# of drug scanned at sites may trigger counterfeit attempt

ADRM/AEFI

Easier to identify patients who received same batch

Trigger Alert

Trigger alert when an already expired or near-expiry product is dispensed

Less Costly

No need to procure additional barcode reader machine

Simplicity

Can be operated by facility staff having minimum training

FAQ

Computer Vision (CV)

Is defined as a solution that leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to allow computers to obtain meaningful data from visual inputs, such as photos & videos. The insights gained from CV are then used to take automated actions like AI gives computers the ability to ‘think’, CV allows them to ‘see’.

DataMatrix

A Data Matrix is two-dimensional code consisting of black & white cells or dots arranged in either a square or rectangular pattern, also known as a matrix. The information to be encoded in text or numeric. Usual data size is a few bytes up to 1556.

Dispensing

‘Dispensing’ refers to the process of preparing and giving medicine to a named person on the basis of a prescription.

VVM

VVMs (Vaccine Vial Monitors) are small indicators that adhere to vaccine vials and change color as the vaccine is exposed to cumulative heat, letting health workers know whether the vaccine has exceeded a pre-set limit beyond that vaccine should not be used.
